VIA Summerschool, is definitely not a vacation. We have to really work hard, read chapters in our books, cooperate with other members in teams, create presentations and in the end also present what we have already learned.
But, sometimes there is also something like today. Sport games. Afternoon full of sports and fun. We tried to score with tennis ball, as well we put something as ball on us and tried to score with a regular ball. Some of us also became a sumo wrestlers for a while. There is also possibility to play beach volleyball.
Well, thanks for the Sport game :)
Studying in Denmark. That´s what we are doing right now. We are three students from the Czech and the Slovak Republic, spending 3 weeks in Denmark to learn something more in VIA Summer School in Horsens. And we don't regret it at all. Experiences of VIA students
German student (2012):
I would recommend this city and university, because it offers a very
international environment. The quality of the study programme is very
high and offers a strong orientation towards an international career.
Danish student (2013)
For me there are three things that make a study course great, the teachers, the program and the students. The teachers are great, motivating and inspiring - but also down to
earth which makes learning and studying with them very enjoyable.
Spanish student (2013)
A lot of electronics and graphical companies are based there. Horsens also has the only Industrial Museum in Denmark.
Romanian student (2013)
I strongly recommend this University. The teachers are absolutely professionals, the education system is based
on practice, not only on theories and this is very helpful for faster
and effective learning process. The accommodation was excelent, just in
front of university.
System of studies
VIA summer school is here mostly for Uni students from Europe. And we want to also tell you something about studies in Czech-Slovak Republic.
We all already tried some universities in Czech-Slovak rep. And we all can say, that is mostly about memorizing. Exercises at our homes are in most cases leaded by 'just teachers' doctors, which have already never worked in real world of business or science. And on top of it they are supposed to know everything, they should look smart and their true is the right one. Here in Denmark, teacher might be not that one he knows everything, but they know, where you can find what you seek for and how to lead you.
I know we have just the summer course here, but teachers want us to work together on case studies, play games and ask, ask and ask them again.
Have you ever played a game at Czech-Slovak Uni? Or has your teacher ever told you, that she feels confused when you don't ask?
Life in the VIA Summer School
If
you consider studying abroad, if you want to experience a foreign studying system
or if you just do not want to be bored during your summer holiday,
participation in the VIA Summer School programme might be the best idea.
VIA
University offers three week courses for international students. You can choose
courses like Enterpreneurship, Social Media Marketing, Web design, Digital
Multimedia, Business Communication and many others. The great news is that for
the students who live in the member countries of the EU the price for the
assignment to this programme is really very low in comparison to some simile summer
schools in Europe – 100 EUR. If you pass this programme, you will get 5 ECT.
VIA
University is located in the city of Horsens. You can get here by bus, train,
plane or car without any difficulties as this location is well accessible.
VIA
University offers you the option of the
accomodation straight in the school building (costs 30 EUR per 1 week) or in
the doorms in the centre of the city (100 EUR per week). If you are not
interested, you can arrange the accomodation by yourself as well. If you want to find more about the accomodation in Horsens, check this website:

You
are supposed to bring or cook here your own food, the school canteen is
unfortunately closed during the summer holiday break.
The
coordinators of the Summer School are present whole the time and they can help
to solve any problems or difficulties that might occur. They also try to
arrange some trips or social activities during the weekends.
A few words about Denmark
Denmark is a Nordic country in Northern Europe,
located southwest of Sweden and south of Norway, and bordered to the south
by Germany. The Kingdom of Denmark comprises Denmark and two
autonomous constituent countries in the North Atlantic Ocean, the Faroe
Islands and Greenland. At 43,094 square kilometres with a population
of around 5.6 million inhabitants, Denmark consists of a peninsula, Jutland,
and the Danish archipelago of 407 islands of which around 70 are
inhabited. The islands are characterised by flat, arable land and sandy
coasts, low elevation and a temperate climate.
A Scandinavian nation, Denmark shares strong cultural
and historic ties with its neighbours Sweden and Norway. The national
language, Danish is very closely related and mutually
intelligible with Swedish and Norwegian . The capital city is
called Copenhagen with the population of about 1,2 milion of inhabitants.

Explore the charming city of Horsens
Horsens is a pitoresque city in
Denmark, which lies at the end of Horsens Fjord in east Jutland. The city
population is about 55 thousands of inhabitants. Horsens is about 50 km south
of Aarhus and approximately 200 km from the capital, Copenhagen. The city is
surrounded by a beautiful landscape with low hills and valeys which provide
great opportunities for hiking or bicycle trips.
Horsens i salso very popular for
its cultural events such as the Antal European Medieval Festival in August when
the city center is transformed into a large medieval market and offers a lot of
fun for both adults and children. The center is also full of clubs, pubs and
restaurants where you can enjoy your student life.
Moreover, Horsens seems to be right in the middle of Denmark. Therefore it is really easily accessible by train, bus or car and it is situated close to the Aarhus or Billund airport.

Interview with Zuzana Jandíková, one of the fulltime students of VIA University
1. Why did you choose study to in Denmark - Horsens?
Via University College is mainly for international students, which
gives you the opportunity to study in English. We share the ideas with students
from different countries, make projects together and that is the main reason
why I choose to study here. I liked the idea to experience different culture
and learn Danish language. In Denmark there is also a very good social system
and more professional opportunities in job search.
2. Can you label the biggest difference? Or differences?
The main difference is that you can experience different culture,
learn new language, meet more people and travel. The educational system is much
better than in Slovakia - you learn by practicing and using the theory in
practice, make team projects and train your presentation and communication
skills. You are more opened to your teachers who are more like your supervisors.
3. Do you have experience with Slovak or Czech universities and
campuses?
I only have experience with Elementary and High school in
Slovakia. But I don´t have experience with universities and colleges as I went
to Denmark directly after graduation.
4. After four years of you being in here, could you say if your
expectations were fulfilled?
Yes, definitely. I have fulfilled my expectations as I have
finished my bachelor degree here in International Sales and Marketing. I gained
more experience in my field during practical placement, have more connections
and learning Danish. I will also continue on Master studies in International
Business at the Aarhus University.
5. Would you recommend studying in Denmark (Via university) to
other person?
Yes. I would recommend it to other students as well. It is nice to
experience a different environment and be more independent, learn new language
and experience different surrounding and systems.
